About Us
The Society
Rogue Productions, founded sometime in the distant past (no one really knows), is St Andrews University's film-making subcommittee. Affiliated with the Student's Association, our aim is to promote and facilitate student film in St Andrews. We provide equipment, workshops, and resources for developing and getting involved with projects. We cater to your needs, so whether you're an experienced film maker and just want funding and equipment for your project, or you've never touched a camera in your life and would just like to try it out, we'll hook you up with what you're looking for. If you've got any specific interests, (including wanting your events filmed) let us know and we'll see what we can do for you. As a subcommittee, we allow students to meet and engage with fellow film-makers with a range of experience and interests. We also work closely with Mermaids, the St Andrews Theatre Group and STAR, St Andrews Radio Station - you can find out more about them at www.standrewsradio.com.
Our biggest event of the year is Half Cut Film Festival, a national Scottish student film festival that aims to legitimise student film, and give professionals the chance to see up-and-coming talent. We take submissions from students all across Scotland, as although there are plenty of great (and not so great) films being made out there, we still lack a widely recognised forum to showcase them to the public. In recent years, Half Cut has seen gritty drama, musicals in miniature, ninjas on swings, claymation and full lobster costumes. Last year, our panel of judges consisted of two Animators from Pixar, a BAFTA-award winner, and St Andrews' very own Rector. If you have any ideas for a film and need a little help, pop an email to us or swing by our weekly meeting. We can help you with finding your cast and crew, borrow equipment and with funding your project. Please fill out the forms below if you are looking to get funding and bring them with you to one of the meetings.
